OPENING OF A VILLAGE SCHOOL IN COLLABORATION WITH LES DEUX

In a small town half an hour’s drive from the nearest big city, there was an abandoned school that had been empty for 30 years. Close to the school is a refugee camp, where the blue tarpaulins flap in the wind, with children as far as the eye can see. Children who do not go to school. We thought it made no sense.
With a strong and long-term commitment from Les Deux, we have transformed the abandoned and dilapidated school into the finest little village school, with nice bright rooms, toilets, and kitchen. There are two large classrooms and a kindergarten. Nine United Fund has donated a school bus. Every morning the children are picked up from the camp and driven to school and back again. When we saw the little pupils with the green school bags on their backs standing expectantly in front of their tent waiting for the bus, we got a lump in our throats. It was a big and important moment. The school is official, which means that all pupils receive a certificate for their education.

ALCHEMIST x FOOD PROGRAMME

Before the summer holidays, we held a charity dinner at Alchemist. It was a magnificent evening. The money from the evening goes to a food program at two of our schools. A.P Møller Holding has donated to two schools, and an anonymous family fund to a further three. This means that we now have six schools where we offer food. We dream of one day providing food at all our 16 schools. We can see how much food means to learning, well-being, and health.

FIRST TIME AT THE BEACH

When we visited the schools a few weeks ago, we had the most magical day. We picked up our pupils from one school in buses and drove them to the beach. For most of them, it was their first time at the sea. To see our little pupils feel the sand under the trees for the first time and feel the warm, salty water wash over them – it was huge. Many were a little nervous, but everyone got in and everyone had fun. We bathed for hours, ate pizzas, and ended with an ice cream.

HAIRDRESSER

As a surprise, we hired the nicest hairdressing team in town and visited a school. All children had their hair washed, cut and styled. The pupils felt pampered, beautiful, and proud when they sat there in the hairdresser’s chair.

It was a great success, which we will certainly repeat whenever possible.

IT’S CHRISTMAS AGAIN…

There is still some time, we know that. But before we know it, it’s Christmas.

Last year there were companies that donated Christmas presents to our pupils. We bought warm jackets and boots for all our pupils.

If you work in a company where you think it makes sense, you must not hold back. We are very happy to take your Christmas presents and give them to someone who really needs them.
