At the time of writing, we have erected 10 well-functioning schools along the Syrian border on Turkish soil. 10 schools which together create learning and play for more than 700 students. Most of the schools are in refugee camps, where thousands of families have settled indefinitely in an attempt to create a life on a countryman’s dusty ground. A single school is housed in an apartment in a slum of the city. Here we have transformed a gray and sad building into a yellow and magical space, where the children of the street receive education, care and a hot meal every day. Common to all our schools is that they are more than just a school. They are a space where children are allowed to be children, where an adult takes care of them. They go from being left to themselves to having a place to go where everyday life is filled with content and love.

The concept is as simple as it is effective. Now we are taking the same concept, and building schools in Lebanon. The students still come from Syria, but have settled on Lebanese soil. We have just returned home from there and we are delighted that we are now so strong that we can help even more children who do not have a school.

Our schools lack electricity, so an upcoming project will be to implement solar cells that can provide enough energy to keep an air conditioner running in the summer and heat up a bit in the winter. The current that is now is too unstable, which means that there are often more than 45 degrees in the school. It does not help, so we start looking for sponsors for photovoltaic systems for our schools. It costs about 20,000 DKK per. school to establish. It only costs 150 DKK a month to send 1 child to school. 300 DKK to send 2 children to school, etc. And fortunately many of you have already signed up. A thousand for it!
